Designer low-end collaborations have become so popular, more brands are jumping on the bandwagon than off. New in stores this week is London’s Kinder Aggugini for Macy’s Impulse department. Described as “Sid Vicious meets Coco Chanel,” the 40 looks capture a tailored-yet-rocker aesthetic within an affordable price range: mostly $40 to $140, with a few pieces (probably the leather jacket) reaching up to $300. There will be approximately 40 pieces in the entire collection, including jackets, knitwear, dresses and shorts.
Macy’s cites key items as tailored leather and bouclĂ© jackets, soft cardigans, ultra-feminine silk shorts and Kimono-style dresses with Kinder’s signature touches. Kinder has worked with John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith, Calvin Klein, Costume National, Versace and more. So he’s more than qualified to design fabulous clothes, but can he do it on a budget using less-than-stellar fabrics? We’ll see.
Macy’s expects to roll out a new designer collaboration every few months, although no word on who might be the next designer.
