DIY Spa: Steal Tricks From Atlanta’s Licensed Professionals

Becoming a professional skin care guru takes years of training and practice. For those with less time to devote to the finer points, here’s a tip: the estheticians (people who give facials, body treatments, etc) trained at the Atlanta School of Aesthetics learn using products from Lotus Moon. The school chose the eco-friendly line “because it combines aromatherapy and principles of Ayurveda with high levels of anti-aging active ingredients to renew the skin at the cellular level.” All Lotus Moon products are free from petrochemicals, paraben, sulfate, phthalate, have a natural base and contain only natural colors and fragrances.

To get a hands-on approach to what the products can do, visit the school’s teaching facility, Sensability, where you can get a discounted spa treatment from a student (with professional supervision). Being a guinea pig can get you a basic facial for $35 or massage for $40. Tuesday treatments exclusively feature Lotus Moon products.

Save some money, save the environment, look good and help train the next generation of estheticians. Everybody wins.

Sensability. 2 Dunwoody Park S. Open 7 days a week.

Do It For Love: Valentine’s Services at Natural Body Spa

7 Feb

Couples massages are nothing new or novel around Valentine’s Day–almost every spa offers them. But what’s romantic about having unknown chemicals rubbed into your skin in an overpriced “luxury” spa? This February, head to Natural Body, one of the greenest spa companies in Atlanta, probably in the entire country (their Brookhaven location won a Platinum LEED award for having such an environmentally friendly and efficient design and is the only day spa in the nation to do so, according to their website). The company has incredibly strict standards about staying natural in its products, scrutinizing every ingredient in the brands they carry.

For Valentine’s Day, Natural Body is offering a Valentine Couples Connection treatment ($140), where partners take turns laying on the table while a masseuse instructs the other on proper hands-on techniques. Each person gets 45 minutes of learning and experiencing with the ability to go home and do it all over again. For those who just prefer to be pampered, try the Date Night Special ($185/60 min, $265/90 min), which is just solid side-by-side rubdown time. At the end of both treatments, everyone gets a sweet edible treat and a gift bag.

It’s may not be happily ever after, but it’s a good start.

Natural Body Spa. Valentine treatments available at 9 of 11 Atlanta-area locations. Now through Feb 28, 2011.

Visiting family and friends over the holidays is a bit like a high school reunion, except it happens EVERY. FREAKING. YEAR. You primp outrageously beforehand so that you look your best, rehearse the best ways to explain recent life events (“I’m not unemployed, I’m a freelancer in-between clients!”) and act like it’s all completely routine and natural.

This may be Spa Sentio’s first holiday season in Atlanta, but they’re already eager to get involved and help you out. This Thursday from 6pm to 9pm, they’re hosting a “pamper yourself before the holidays” event with brow treatments, airbrush make-up techniques, and mini-tutelage on mantra and chakra meditation from resident zenist Amy Sullivan. Plus, nibbles and sips to really make it a party–so you can start practicing ways to explain whatever happened to that graduate degree you were working on (“Oh, I decided to give my spot in the program to an underprivileged student!”).

Spa Sentio. 1170 Howell Mill Road Suite 102. For more information, call 404.733.1820.
